Staying at caravan and holiday parks is great but sometimes they can get pretty costly and you can feel a bit crammed in at times. They usually have a wide range of facilities and can be in convenient locations but sometimes you feel like something a bit different, less expensive or more adventurous. I have compiled a list of my favourite resources for finding campsites that are a bit more spacious, quiet and secluded.
Wikicamps
This is an App that we use daily on our road trips, it has so many free camp suggestions, paid camp suggestions, points of interest that you may not have known about before and so much more. It can give you details such as any fees, the facilities on-site and also the ability to look at other travellers’ reviews and photos of the location to help you decide on things.
You can also use the trip planner feature to map out your planned trip ahead of time with all the campsites and points of interest you want to visit. You also have the ability to download maps for offline use which is handy when you are out of reception.
It is a once-off fee of $7.99 but honestly, it pays for itself on day one and is my most recommended app ever.
CamperMate
Similar to Wikicamps it is an app that doesn’t have quite as many locations pinned as Wikicamps does but it is a free app which is nice and sometimes has some spots that other apps do not show.
HipCamp
The Airbnb of campsites! Hipcamp is a platform and app that allows people to rent out their private property for travellers to camp on. There is a wide range of options available at prices that are usually cheaper than your regular caravan park. It allows you access to some beautiful locations & views that otherwise you would not be able to, away from the crowds and chaos.
Explore Parks WA
Explore Parks WA is a website run by the Western Australian government with lots of information about WAs National parks. This is the website you will need to go to if you want to book any campsites that require bookings in national parks. Keep in mind that for some national park campsites, you cannot book ahead and are first in best-dressed pay on-site but for the ones that need bookings, you may do so here.
Camps Australia
If you did any camping in Australia as a child I’m sure you will remember the Camps Australia Map and guide Books they have been helping people travel Australia for the past 30 years. They now also have an app that has all that knowledge in it as well and is definitely a good resource while on the road.
Hopefully, these resources help you find ways to get off the beaten track and have amazing experiences when planning your next adventure.
